The latest rumors about the upcoming Microsoft Surface phone suggested that the device might sport revolutionary specs changes like the fingerprint sensor and AMOLED display. Reports claimed that the main aim of the company to add the fingerprint scanner is to get in line with other smartphone providers in the industry and thus increase their market share.
Beta News reported that the Redmond-based technology giant had earlier filed a patent codenamed as Fingerprint Detection with Transparent cover. According to the patent, the fingerprint sensor is expected to be integrated on the new Microsoft Surface phone's display with a filter and a waveguide.
"An electronic device includes a transparent cover and a light source disposed at an edge of the transparent cover," stated the patent, as reported by WIPO. "The light source is configured to inject light into the transparent cover. The transparent cover guides the light until interaction with a fingerprint ridge at the transparent cover. A detector generates a signal indicative of the scattered light allowed through the filter."
Furthermore, it is stated that the new scanner will provide the users with added security as the Surface phone will reportedly unlock only when the users will place their fingerprint onto the display panel. Reports claimed that the sensor imbibed onto the device will scan the unique crests of the user's fingerprints in order to unlock the device.
Besides, the new Microsoft Surface Phone is also rumored to sport a sleeker chassis along with an AMOLED display panel onboard. Rumors suggested that the device will be made available in two variants like a consumer variant with a 5.5-inch display and a business variant with a 6-inch screen.
As far as the performance-related specs are concerned, the Surface Phone is rumored to be powered by Intel Kaby Lake processor. Also, the base model of the device will consist of a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, whereas the high-end variant will sport an 8 GB RAM and 512 GB storage
In terms of software specs, the Microsoft device will run on the latest Windows 10 mobile operating system. Also, the Surface phone is speculated to feature a 21-megapixel rear and an 8-megapixel front camera.
Apart from the spec-related rumors, reports claimed that the upcoming Microsoft Surface phone is expected to be released in early 2017 at the company's technical event. However, Microsoft has not provided any official information on the upcoming Surface phone. So, the specs should be considered with a grain of salt.
